There are no handouts and no banks in the Zone. Paper money is worthless — the only thing anyone trades in is cigarettes. You break down what you find, smelt ore into parts, craft the gear that keeps you alive, and pay for everything in smokes.
Cigarettes are the only money
Every price, fee and payout is counted in cigarettes — the black market, the mechanic, the fence, the auction house. There is no cash and no bank. You find cigarettes rare-but-in-quantity while scavenging, or you make your own.
Grow it, dry it, roll it
Cigarettes come from tobacco. Plant a seed (bought from the Rare Items Merchant — each planting costs you one), harvest the leaves, then hang them on a drying rack — the current season decides how long the cure takes and how rich the yield is — before you shred and roll the cut tobacco into cigarettes at a hidden lab. Whoever controls that lab controls the money supply.
Build it or die without it
A full crafting loop turns scrap into tools, weapons and vehicle parts. Smelt ore into ingots, recycle junk for materials, and work admin-placed stations to build the kit you can't find. What you can make is what you can survive with.
A market with teeth
Trade with other survivors, roaming NPC traders and the black market. Prices are server-authoritative and the economy is persistent — your stockpile carries forward, wipe-free.
